I’m muddling my way through Real Life, Real Love: 7 Paths to a Strong & Lasting Relationship, by Fr. Albert Cutie, and I’ll admit: if it hadn’t been for the high opinion I have of the person who let me borrow this book, I would not have even cracked its cover. Why? Well, it’s that pride thing, and the pile o’ books that are calling to me from various corners of the house. However, after reading this the other night, and many other equally insightful passages, I am glad I picked it up. It’s just what I need, as it turns out.

We are all full of opinions and certainties. We’re all tempted to pass judgment on other people. As a result of these tendencies, it’s easy to tune out what others think and feel, and to focus instead only on our own “take” on reality. But doing so makes it hard to be compassionate. My recommendation: rather than judging others and their actions, try to be more open-minded and open-hearted.
