This is the kind of news I love. From an email this weekend:
I wanted to bring this piece of local news to your attention. It’s my son, Alex. He just made First Holy Communion and received money for the occasion. He decided to donate all of it to the local Ecumenical Kitchen. He is very inspired by Pope Francis and said to me, “If we don’t help the hungry, who will?” He donated $465 and fed about 350 people. We spent the afternoon with the patrons and Alex (and his brother Gabriel) ate with them. It was just beautiful.
Turns out that the mom sent me this at her son’s request. You see, he wants everyone to be inspired to help the poor and hungry in their own communities.
He’s hoping the story will make it to Pope Francis. I laughed and told him that I didn’t think Pope Francis watched the news in Allentown but I’d try. 🙂 all about evangelizing, right?!?
Here’s the full story. If you’re so inclined, why not consider a donation of your time, your money, or your groceries to your local food pantry, soup kitchen, or charity relief organization?
